Where the parts come from.
Most of the parts you can place in Cherry Blossom were drawn by other people. This page says who, and what you may do with their work.
KiCad's libraries
The KiCad parts we offer from the parts database (symbols, footprints and 3D models) are from the KiCad libraries, © KiCad library contributors. They are under CC BY-SA 4.0 with the KiCad libraries exception. The libraries are at gitlab.com/kicad/libraries, and the licence text is on KiCad's site.
The exception is what matters for a board: a design you make with these parts owes nothing. You can sell it, keep it private or share it under any licence you like. The licence applies to the library parts themselves, not to the board they are used on.
What we changed
- We converted KiCad's symbols and footprints into our own part and land pattern formats.
- We paired each symbol pin with the footprint pad it belongs to, and left out parts where that could not be done.
- We read each pin's role (supply, ground, exposed pad, not connected, or a signal) from its name.
The parts we converted are offered under the same licence as the originals, CC BY-SA 4.0 with the KiCad libraries exception. A part placed from the database keeps the credit and the licence in the project, and the Inspector shows them.
EasyEDA and LCSC
When you look a part up at LCSC, its pins, land pattern and 3D model come from the JLCEDA/EasyEDA Official Library. The library asks for this credit wherever its data is used: pins, land patterns and 3D models from the JLCEDA/EasyEDA Official Library (easyeda.com, lceda.cn).
The parts database also keeps these supplier records: when a part is looked up, the server stores the record, and it can then be offered from the database like a KiCad part. A part placed from one says so in the Inspector, with this credit.
We do change some of it. We read each pin's role (supply, ground, input, output) from its name. For a few parts we replace the record's pins with pins we checked by hand. And when the record's pads match a standard footprint, we may draw the part on that footprint instead of the supplier's own land pattern. Where the records of one part disagree, or a record is a user's own upload, the part says so, and Checks tells you before you order a board.
